12 Easy Tips for Natural Weight Loss Success

Remedies for Natural Weight Loss

1) Increase Level of Exercise:

Getting in a proper amount of exercise is important when you’re trying to lose weight naturally. This is especially true if you spend most of the day sitting at a computer desk or lounging on the couch. Try incorporating a 30-minute walk into your daily activities. Take the stairs instead of riding the elevator. Stretch your muscles while watching television. Overall, there are plenty of small adjustments to make when you wish to increase your level of daily activity for weight loss.

2) Calorie Balancing Act:

In order to lose weight, you must burn more calories than you consume. Some people find a beneficial balance by simply eating fewer calories (like cutting out late-night snacking), while others enjoy increasing their daily exercise. Those who do both tend to receive the best results.

3) Green Tea Products:

Even 500,000 years ago in China and India, tea leaves steeped in boiling water served as a botanical wonder in the medicinal world [1]. With small amounts of caffeine, green tea offers a satisfying alternative to caffeinated products (like coffee), which is linked to food cravings and enhanced appetites when consumed in large amounts. A handful of studies suggest that green tea has the power to boost your metabolism and increase fat burning. While the majority of green tea products are found in a dried leaf tea form, today’s market also provides a variety of extracts, capsules, and other liquid options.

4) Dandelion:

As a natural diuretic, dandelion is known to assist natural weight loss by reducing the amount of water in the body.

5) Raw Food Diet:

A great deal of people have been able to achieve natural weight loss by following a raw food diet, which consists of uncooked and unprocessed plant foods, such as raw vegetables, fruits, sprouts, dried fruit, nuts, seaweed, seeds, grains, and of course, salads.

6) Pears:

A study conducted at the University of Rio de Janeiro revealed that women who consumed three pears per day also ate fewer calories on a daily basis. The secret? Pears are packed with fiber and give you that feeling of fullness that keeps you from overeating. Eating a pear (skin and all) before a meal can help curb hunger.

7) Modify Your Dessert Habits:

If you crave desserts after dinner, try skipping this sweet temptation for a week and you could see a one to two pound difference on the scale. If you must end a delicious meal with something sweet, opt for fresh and dried fruits. Learning to substitute your sugar selections with less damaging choices can also help you naturally lose weight. For example, use honey and molasses as sweeteners instead of pure sugar.

8) Grapefruit:

Nibble on ½ grapefruit before eating each meal and you could see a difference in weight loss. Researchers pinpoint a compound in the fruit that helps regulate insulin – a fat-storage hormone.

9) Almonds:

One serving of almonds (22 nuts) is a great way to stay true to a healthy diet and melt away pounds. According to the International Journal of Obesity, participants in a study ate almonds on a daily basis for six months and were able to lose 18% of their body fat.

10) Navy Beans:

Did you know that navy beans contain resistant starch – a great fat-burning tool? Just ½ cup of navy beans delivers close to 10 grams of resistant starch. Try consuming navy beans and other foods packed with resistant starch for just one meal per day and you can burn 25% more fat.

11) Chlorophyll-Rich Foods:

Boost your weight loss power by including foods rich in chlorophyll, such as asparagus, which enhances digestive function and provides the body with helpful folate, vitamins A, C, and K, and fiber.

12) Pine Nuts:

Take a page from ancient Chinese medicine and use pine nuts to naturally suppress your appetite, as well as improve the function of your gastrointestinal tract and digestive system [2].

We will address topics of concern to you, and I welcome your thoughts, comments, and suggestions for future articles. Here's to the beginning of a great relationship with you! Stay with us!

“Beauty Over 40”

Renee M. Davis

Women have always wanted to look their best, and some of us have noticed we are starting to look very different than we did in our 20’s and 30’s.

Skin follows a biological timeline, by decades of life. During your 20s and 30s, the first wrinkles start to appear and skin becomes less resistant as elasticity declines and gravity begins to take hold. In your 40s and 50s, repetitive movements form the first permanent wrinkles as genetics, gravity and a decrease in collagen and elastin cause skin and muscle to sag.

Nutrition

It is critically important that we make sure to get the proper nutrition to maintain the health of our bodies. The following recommendations will have a POSITIVE effect on your outward beauty but more importantly, on your overall health and well-being. Some foods can be eaten to help you look and age better!

DO:

  • Take a daily multi-vitamin, start today!
  • Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables daily.
  • Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, which is only four .5 liters bottles of water.
  • Eat multi-grains and whole grains.
  • Drink 1% or 2% milk or drink ‘light’ soy milk. Use skim milk in smoothies.
  • Limit alcoholic and caffeinated beverages (especially soda).
  • Limit your intake of red meat.
  • Stop smoking!
  • Exercise regularly; walking, yoga and Pilates are especially good.
  • Eat regular pasta (use whole grain pasta.)
  • Drink high fat dairy products – whole milk.

Skincare

As we mature, many things change, including our skin. It’s never too late to begin a skincare regimen that will improve the health and look of your skin. Follow an anti-aging skin-care regimen. They are specifically formulated to add the extra hydration, vitamins and anti-oxidants that maturing skin needs. Dermatologists agree that the single most important skin-care product for day is sunscreen. ALL women should use it daily.

Vitamin A has been shown to clear up acne and reduce the appearance of fine lines and pores. Use products that have vitamin A as one of its ingredients.

Research shows that Vitamin B, panthenol (B5) and niacinamide (B3), added to skin care products, help hydrate the skin and even out tone.

Taking Vitamin C counteracts the effects of sun exposure by reducing free-radical damage, which can lead to wrinkles and cancer. Using vitamin C in skin care products decreases sun damage and enhances collagen production if it's in an effective, stable form. Look for "L-ascorbic acid," "ascorbic palmitate," or "magnesium ascorbyl phosphate" on labels.

Taking 400 IU of Vitamin E daily can reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture. Look for "natural" or "d-alpha tocopherol" on labels. Preliminary studies suggest that E reduces chronic UV-induced skin damage.

Other skincare nutrients include Coemzyme-Q10, omega-3 fats (flax seed oil, stable fish oil supplements) and alpha lipoic acid, which can be found in a variety of vitamin supplement products.

Hair care

Whatever style you choose to wear, whether worn relaxed, in locs, twists or braids, make certain that it is well-kept, clean and healthy. If you choose to allow your hair to gray naturally, congratulations! Besides being profoundly liberating (no more pesky roots!), going gray makes a statement of supreme confidence: “This is who I am, and I'm proud of my natural beauty.”

Maintaining color-enhanced tresses is one of the prerogatives of being a woman. The color should complement your skin tone and be of a softer hue as your face and features mature.

Find a haircut that complements the shape of your face. Many hairstylists can help you find the perfect cut that exudes the real you!

Hairpieces, wigs and weaves are also available to women today that allow us to change and enhance our appearance.

Age-Appropriate / Body-Appropriate Dressing

“Should we care what others think at this stage of our lives? The style-confident women I know say that the idea of age-appropriate dressing has no meaning for them; it's more about body-appropriate dressing. Our generation is redefining the concept of aging, just as we've redefined everything else. Style after 40 is not about competing with your daughters or dressing like the girl you were 20 years ago; it's about dressing like the girl you are now.” [1]

Know your body type and which styles make you look your best. Not all styles are appropriate for all body types. The current style may not be for you. If you’re not sure which styles suit your body the best, get a personal image consultant to help you. You can also learn quite a bit by watching certain television programs such as The Learning Channel’s  “What Not To Wear” or Bravo’s “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style”.

Properly fitting undergarments are essential to any outfit to make you look your best. If you have never had a professionally fitted bra, treat yourself! You will look and feel better. There are certain support undergarments that well-dressed women cannot do without. They include support bras that also aid posture, which is especially important for woman with larger bust sizes. Body shapers give a smooth appearance under clothing, and help to cinch the waist, while capri-style control smoothes your look in pants without any lines.

Healthy Self-Acceptance

Above all, self-confidence, a healthy self-image and self-esteem are the greatest beauty assets any woman can own. You were created for a purpose, find that purpose and fulfill it. Recognize your worth and the fact that there has never been, and never will be again, ANYONE LIKE YOU! Overall, remember that you are “fearfully and wonderfully made”, so straighten up that posture and walk with confidence!
